IWC: War games Sonar could cause widespread whale beaching and death.

I am a whale lover who looks forward to the annual migration of humpbacks up the east coast of Australia. I and concerned by a report released at this week's International Whaling Commission IWC meeting in Alaska by the commission's Scientific Committee which said Powerful warship sonar could cause widespread whale beaching or large-scale whale deaths or injuries. This could result from the Military exercises planned by Australia and the United States next month off Shoal-water bay near Yepoon.

Dear Mr Howard

We citizens of Australia strongly request:

• All whaling activity is stopped from occurring in Australian territorial waters by the Commonwealth Government.
• Immediate steps are taken to prosecute boats detected slaughtering whales within Australian territorial waters, whether for scientific or commercial purposes and irrespective of whether that country recognises our territorial waters.

Dear Mr Hideaki Ueda,

I am writing to express my disgust and abhorrence at Japans slaughter of 863 whales this year in the Antarctic and its massacre of up to 20,000 dolphins every year. Japan also wants to restart commercial whaling even though in effect that is what you are doing already under the thin disguise of “scientific whaling “.

I am writing to express my concern over Japanese scientific whaling in the Southern Ocean (JARPA II) and to urge the Australian Government to take legal action against Japan immediately, to pursue an injunction to halt whaling within 14 days. I have recently learned that the Government of Japan has expanded its so-called;scientific; whaling program in the Southern Ocean Whale Sanctuary and that it plans to kill more than 935 whales in the name of science. It will also introduce the hunting of humpback whales - one of the main species that support a whale watching industry worth almost $300 million a year in Australia.
