Im in Tonga legally swimming with whales.
I've just had an amazing 10 days swimming and connecting with the whales off the Haapai islands in Tonga. Ill have just uploaded some clips that I just shot at http://www.planetearthinternettv.com I'm now in the Vavau group of islands where most of the whale watching (ww) goes on. The good thing about Haapai is there is only one ww operator and he has on a sailing 38 ft catamaran. Glenn the operator is really sensitive to the whales needs and emotions and if the whale doesn't feel like playing then we don't force our presence on them.

Following is a brief summary of events that occurred in Santiago over the last week.
When will the Whales and Dolphins swim free?
After a week attending sessions and gatherings at the International Whaling Commission IWC in Santiago, Chile I am left wondering in what forum will the decision to end whaling occur. After all, apart from the NGO crew sitting up the back of the hall, the many of the voters are just politicians from whaling backgrounds or they are heavily subsidised by Japanese aid.

Around 15 people from Byron participated in the protest. Dean Jefferys from Byron Whale Action Group, delivered the attached letters to Deputy Consul Mr Tamura at the Japanese consulate in Brisbane today. We also hand delivered letters announcing the Boycott Japanese Products campaign to Representatives from Sony. Mitsubishi and Japanese Airlines Today.

Fed up with the Japanese government insisting it must continue to kill whales, members from whale conservation groups in Australia and around the world are now are calling for consumers to boycott Japanese products and services.

Why do we love whales so much and why does our heart skip a beat and we scream when we see a whale breach off the Byron Lighthouse. What will it mean to humanity when the powerful Japanese Whaling interest are finally pushed onto their sword by the weight of global public opinion and admit defeat. We will certainly feel richer in spirit as a species that we were able to correct a terrible injustice perpetrated against these majestic beings of the ocean.

Sea Shepherd says two of its crew members were assaulted and tied to the radar mast and are now being held hostage on a Japanese whaling ship after trying to deliver a letter to the captain.

Outline: “Flight of the Humpback” is a carefully thought out strategy to contribute to the global effort to stop whaling. For the first time in over 30 years, this December 2008, Australian humpbacks and other endangered whales will be targeted by Japanese whalers when they return to the Antarctic.

Synopsis:
“Flight of the Humpback” is a one hour documentary and interactive broadband website depicting the desperate battle to save endangered Australian humpback whales and other whales from the imminent threat of Japanese harpoons.

The battle to save these whales will be expressed by a group of passionate activists, musicians and celebrities who sail and interact with the humpbacks on their northern and southern migration along the east coast of Australia, Tonga and the Antarctic.
